For dullness and texture
Moderate evidenceHydration is the one thing topical HA does convincingly. An 8-week study of a nano-HA formulation in humans measured skin hydration increases up to 96% and elasticity gains up to 55%, and a comparative study of HA creams at 50 to 2,000 kDa molecular weights found all significantly improved hydration and elasticity versus control. Studies are small (dozens of participants) and industry-linked, but the direction of effect is consistent and matches basic chemistry.
Randomized trials support this use, but they are few, small, or short. The effect is probably real. The size of it is less certain.
